SmartMap measures the spatial
distribution of elements - but there is much more to it than just this.
In SmartMap an X-ray spectrum
is collected at each point on the map and the resulting data acts as a
virtual sample. This means that little
prior knowledge of the sample is required because all possible elements
are measured when a SmartMap is collected.
SmartMaps can be viewed or
processed during or after acquisition in a number of ways, including as
elemental distribution maps and
linescans,
Cameo+ images,
quantitative
line profiles, phase distribution
maps
and used to reconstruct X-ray spectra.
